WPT Introduces MySpace Poker Community
The writing was on the wall for a move
21 Oct 08

Maybe we should've read the writing on the wall.

The World Poker Tour terminates a deal with CryptoLogic and announces that it will close its poker room effective November 14.

It brings in Thomas Flahie, one of MySpace.com's builders, as interim Chief Financial Officer and now the WPT has announced its own MySpace.com community, or as the two said in a release, "fully integrated poker destination with games and content for MySpace members."

Www.myspace.com/ClubWPT will be a online space for poker aficionados and casual poker players alike offering visitors tips, video clips, information on players and tournaments as well as exclusive content from the World Poker Tour and its new ClubWPT.com TV show.

On top of that the new online community will offer members a chance to get to know WPT poker pros and the opportunity to, do what else, play poker.

Another option offered at the new poker community is a multiplayer freeplay poker game (developed by Oberon) that will allow members to play as if they were in an online poker room.

A paid membership is also offered and for less than $20 a month ($19.95 to be exact) "ClubWPT.com" members to play for cash, prizes and seats to WPT events.

"MySpace is bringing a new dimension of entertainment to users with this integrated WPT poker hub and providing an easy and fun way for users to play poker with friends on MySpace," said MySpace senior VP of marketing, entertainment and content Angela Courtin.

"MySpace has a balance of a social community base and a global portal platform that allows brands like WPT to create great online entertainment experiences for our users."

"Poker and social networking have separately reached and engaged people around the world in ways like nothing we’ve seen before," said WPT president, CEO and cofounder Steve Lipscomb.

"As poker continues to see major growth across the globe, this partnership meets the demand for a poker experience that appeals to enthusiasts of all levels."
