Diary of a beginner: Part I
I could sit here and spit out all the poker playing jargon, pretending to be an expert. I could lie about all the money I’ve won and how great I am as a poker player, but that would be B.S. The fact of the matter is I’m pretty much a beginner. I’ve played in my fair share of house games and Poker is not new to me, but when it comes to serious poker playing I’m a rookie.
I’ve yet to play in a tournament, either online or otherwise, and I was looking to get any experience I could. So I went to my local video store and rented World Poker Tour by 2K Sports for the Xbox.
The game has plenty of features and is more than just a one renter. You can customize your character, right down to their clothing, play as one of the WPT Pros and play a quick game or go through an entire season.
In the quick game or Quick Draw, a wide variety of games are available. Texas Hold’em, Five Card Draw, Seven Card Stud, Omaha and Pineapple are among the games.
The player can choose the room in Quick Draw and that adds to the overall ambience.
As I began play, I was impressed. It wasn’t too easy or too hard as I won and lost the hands where I bluffed and I even won the first tournament I played in.
It was a good learning experience, when I first played I was overwhelmed by terms such as blinds, river, and the flop. When all was said and done I knew the definitions to all those terms. I liked the game so much that I’m strongly considering purchasing it.
I’m not an expert by any means, but I feel a little better at playing now. Next up: My first tourney.
