Beginners Diary 4: Prepping For Freeroll No. 2
21 Apr 06

Diary of a beginner 4

My last Freeroll Tournament on Titan left a bitter taste in my mouth. I finished dead last and was out of the tournament within five minutes.

Determined not get my rear end handed to me the second time around, I decided to play some more online.

My next Freeroll Tourney was coming up and a return to the scene of the crime was in order.

Maybe it’s mental, maybe it’s bad karma, but things don’t seem to go my way at Titan Poker and that much became apparent last night.

Game the first

On my first hand I was dealt an A and 5s on the Pre-Flop. I had the big blind and dropped a dollar. Someone raised a dollar and I called, another raised two dollars and I called again.

The Flop saw me acquire a 9d, Ac and an 8h. Someone bet $3.00. I had two Aces and wasn’t feeling that confident with them so I simply called.

On the Turn the dealer flipped up a Qc, but I still only had the pair so I checked.

On the River the dealer dealt another Q but someone bet four dollars and that rattled me a little. Did that person really have something or were they bluffing. I was pleased with my Two Pair, Aces and Qs, and felt that I could take them, but I was reckless on my last tourney and didn’t want to get fleeced again. I called the four bucks and found out that I lost. The other person also had Two Pair of Aces and Qs, but he also had a Jd as a high card which KO’d my 5s, so I lost my first hand.

Game 2

My second started off looking promising. I was dealt a 9s and a 9h. I didn’t want to give myself away so I checked.

Someone started off betting $3.00 dollars, which should’ve tipped me off that something was afoot but I called and continued to play.

The Flop saw the dealer deal out a 3h, 7s, and 2c. Someone bet a dollar, I called, someone bet $3.00 and I called again.

The Turn saw the dealer flip a 7h. I had a pair of 9 and a pair of 7. I decided to go for the gusto and raised $4.00. Someone saw my bet and raised another four.

The dealer flipped up a Qh for the River, someone bet 4 and I called, someone else bet four and I called again.

Recounting the events now, I can see that I should’ve been wary of my hand since there was a player almost matching me bet for bet. But I was blinded by my Two Pair.

I had a pair of 9 and a pair of 7 with Q high. Someone else had a pair of K and a pair of 7. Another loss for the rookie.

Third time not a charm

For my final hand I was dealt a Kh and an 8c. Everyone checked to start off so the pot didn’t grow. The Flop saw the dealer reveal a 6h, 2h, and Ac. Someone bet $1.00 so I called.

The Turn presented an interesting dilemma. Prior to that I considered folding, I didn’t really have much of a hand after all. But the dealer flipped up a 9h and suddenly I was a card away from a Flush. I decided to go for it and called the $2.00 bet by somebody.

The River saw my hopes for a Flush dashed as a 6d was dealt. I was beaten once again by Two Pair, 2 and 6.

I didn’t win a single hand this time around and it wasn’t a good way to head into the Freeroll but hopefully I’ve gotten rid of all my bad karma in the process.
