Common Texas Hold’em Mistakes
26 Sep 06
No one is perfect, let alone gamblers, who make mental mistakes. Good players not only study the technical side of a game, they also learn how to overcome weakness. Technical skills are easy to acquire, but mental mistakes are not easily noticed and avoiding them may take expensive lessons.

Here are some of the most common:

Mistake 1: Being impatient and playing too many starting hands.
Many players simply do not have the patience to wait for a good starting hand. Too eager to play with any starting hand usually means losing sessions. Texas Hold’em is a game that requires a lot of patience. The pace of online poker is so fast that it doesn't take long to see a new hand. It is just unnecessary to get involved in every one of them.

Mistake 2: Don’t be too emotional
Any Hold’em player must learn to control their emotions, especially in the midst of a big swing. Some players will try to turn their luck around by playing cards that they shouldn't play. Others will try to move up a level or two in the hope of winning their money back quickly. This is the exact recipe for disaster.

Mistake 3: Thinking Texas Hold’em is an easy game
Yes, Texas Hold’em is easy game to learn, but it's also a difficult game to master. It is a game of psychology, mathematics, self control and body language (in a live environment of course). No matter how good a player you are, there is always something to improve on and adjust.

Mistake 4: Misjudging own ability and the tolerance level for pressure.
Low and high stakes Hold’em are two totally different games. A player may be able to have some success with low stakes Hold’em simply following basic rules, but there is a lot more to high stakes Hold’em than just basic poker. Start low and gain more experience before moving up.

Mistake 5: Not knowing when to exit, particularly when a player is losing.
No one wins everyday. You can go back to play anytime, especially online poker. Why keep playing when you feel nothing can go right?

You probably heard that playing Texas Hold’em is like driving a car. You have to know when to speed up and when to slow down. The game is designed to be very fun and easy to play, but it's difficult to master. To truly enjoy the game, players have to spend time and energy to learn the tricks of the trade.
