2008 WSOP Dates Announced
cardplayer.com - After much criticism from the participants of this summer’s World Series of Poker, Harrah’s Entertainment seems already to be taking steps to rectify some previous mistakes for the upcoming 2008 WSOP. The 39th-Annual WSOP will be taking place at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino for the fourth year in a row, and the official dates are May 30 through July 17 — with scheduled opportunities to pre-register — which once again increases the length of the Series.

UIGEA Repeal - No Poker Exception

Frank Questions Study's Value

Tournament Winners Get Time To Pay Uncle Sam
Rather than forcing casinos to withhold players' winnings, the IRS will require casinos to report winnings on a W-2G form. Players will continue to be responsible for paying taxes on their winnings at tax time. The policy will take effect March 4.
The American Gaming Association, which has butted heads with the IRS regarding the rate of casino worker tip taxes, is cheering the new rule.

U.S. Takes Final Steps To Ban Online Gambling
[M]any banks and credit card companies have not taken any action to stop making payments to illegal sites, awaiting the rules to determine what procedures they need to have in place.
Yesterday's announcement details those rules, calling on all banks, credit card companies and automated payment system companies to have "policies and procedures that are reasonably designed to prevent payments being made to gambling businesses."
