2006 WSOP Should Top Last Year

Harrah's Entertainment executives are projecting that some 41,000 participants will enter this year's 45-event competition. The world championship event could draw a crowd of more than 8,000 players.

Lindgren Wins Poker Pro Showdown
LAS VEGAS, Nevada – (PRESS RELEASE) -- It took nearly four hours for Erick 'E-Dog' Lindgren and Mike 'The Mouth' Matusow to get heads up at the FullTiltPoker.Net Pro Showdown at Red Rock Casino, but just one hand for Lindgren to claim the victory and the $600,000 first-place prize.

Washington Stretches Its Tentacles
"In an article in the Seattle Times by Danny Westneat on June 17th, it is reported that a poker information site has come under fire from the state. The site, called Integrity Casino Guide, is basically an information site for other Internet users which culls different information on the poker rooms on the Web and offers other pertinent details.The owner of the site, Todd Boutte, was concerned about the new law but, since he wasn't taking any wagers on his site, figured that all would be OK.
In a chilling sequence that could be compared to an Orwellian scenario from '1984', the state has said that he is still in violation of the new law in Washington. Because the site contains advertisements, links and information about poker rooms, it is viewed in the same manner as the offshore sites themselves."

"There is more bargain hunting news for the 2006 WSOP Ladies Event. The Gold Coast Casino has joined up with the LIPS Tour to host a ladies super satellite on July 7th at 7:00pm. The buy-in is $100 +25 and they will be awarding one seat into the WSOP Ladies event on July 9th for every ten women in the starting field. Any residual prize pool less than $1000 will be awarded as either a buy-in for the Orleans Open Ladies Event held on July 10th or cash."

"Over the past weekend CBS started broadcasts on the first episode of the Intercontinental Poker Championship, bringing together 21 top global poker players in an intense competition for a $350 000 first place prize and trophy.
In the programs, the players are broken into three groups of 7 who play a single table tournament, with the winner advancing to the semi finals. The remaining three groups of 6 players each then play another set of single table tournaments with each winner moving on, presenting a double elimination style tournament.

Record Set For Online Poker Cash Game
(PRLEAP.COM) A player by the name of Fast_Freddie and bad_ip played a heads up game of texas holdem last night at the Prima Network and set news records. This was the biggest cash game in the history of online poker and the largest hand was recorded.
A hand that was valued at over $465,000 was won by Fast_Freddie when he flopped 3 aces. This is said to be the largest hand ever played in online poker during a regular cash game. The buy-in to get into this game was $40,000 so both players re-bought several times to accumulate such a high table value.

Big gamble pays off for WPT winner
"It was 2 1/2 years ago that Joe Tehan made the decision to hop into his old Ford Taurus and drive across the country with $7,000, bound for the poker tables of the Strip. For his dad, it still hasn't sunk in.
