Book Review: 'Swimming With The DevilFish'
"[W]ritten by noted English author Des Wilson and to be released on June 16th ... is the first book I have seen that focuses on the European poker community and, in particular, the English world of poker. Wilson's task was a simple one in idea and concept: travel with the best in the English poker world and document their experiences as they navigate the globe parlaying their poker skills. In doing this (excellently, I may add), Wilson has given us perhaps the most revealing look at poker outside of the United States and given all readers the opportunity to learn about players that are largely ignored in America."

Looking for Tells
"In addition to looking for them, make sure not to do them yourself. As we mentioned above, emotion is a key factor in giving away clues to more advanced poker players.
They may even fake certain emotions to make a beginner think that they are reading clues, when in fact they are being duped by professionals. In general though, opponent modeling is very important to developing a good poker strategy, so you should just be aware of these common poker tells: ..."

Book Review: How to Win the WSOP (or Not)
"If you're looking for a feel good story about an amateur who fulfills a lifelong dream of winning the World Series of Poker - this is not your book.
Pat Walsh is not the main character from 'Rounders' nor is he Chris Moneymaker. He's simply an author with a publisher willing to front him the money required to learn about poker. Why? Because reading about an underdog is more fun than reading about champions.
And Walsh is funny as hell. "

Countdown To The WSOP: The Action
"While much of the attention of the fans and media will be focused on the battle for the bracelets' during the World Series of Poker, there is perhaps just as much action that will be going on away from the 'official' events. These cash games, satellite tournaments and 'second chance' events don't carry the prestige that winning a World Series bracelet may have, but their award is in a much more immediate form: either a seat in the $10,000 Championship Event or even cold, hard cash."

Big Slick, Playing It Right
"Ace King ... It's monster hand and you plan to get as much money out of everyone as you can.
Big Slick is called Big Slick for a reason. Yes its a monster drawing hand but it is a drawing hand all the same.
IF you hit either an Ace or a King on the flop then you've got yourself top pair with the best kicker. You might get lucky as is connected to get the nuts straight, if its suited you have got the table crippled if you draw that flush. It's worth noting A-K suited is 5th best starting hand but A-K off is 9th best.
But this is the thing - when you haven't seen any cards what have you got really ? An Ace high ... with a King kicker, just about any starting hand could beat it."

Maximizing Your Winnings With A Strong Bluff
"Most poker players, regardless of their experience level, know about bluffing when they’re holding nothing. Fewer understand the power of bluffing when they’ve got a terrific hand. The idea is to keep opponents in the hand (and putting chips in the pot) for as many rounds as possible.
A lot of novice poker players get so excited when they realize they’re holding a great hand - 3-of-a-kind, a full house, straight, flush, or better – that they get ahead of themselves in their zeal to win that hand. Keeping your emotions in check is the first goal. Don’t give your opponents any indication that you’re holding a hand you’ve waited for all night."

Small blind play can lead to big mistakes
"Poker is a game in which danger lurks around every corner, and one of the game's more devious aspects is the temptation to enter too many hands from the small blind.
The small blind has a lot of attractive aspects:
You already have an investment in the pot, so you get a discounted rate to see the flop given there were no raises ahead of you. ... If the action folds around to you, there is a reasonable chance to steal the big blind with a raise.
But these aspects can get you into serious trouble, and a leak in this portion of your game can bring danger."
