Cold Blooded Poker
bluffmagazine.com -- Interpoker.com recently hosted it's second annual Extreme Poker Challenge. The tournament was played on the frozen Arctic Sea in temperatures reaching -10 Fahrenheit, and players were given the option of repurchasing lost chips in exchange for their coats, leaving some competitors wearing only t-shirts.
Robert Varkonyi, 2002 World Series of Poker Champion, won the event, despite losing many of his chips, along with his coat, within the first few hands. Varkonyi even resorted to running laps of the table in between hands in order to stay warm.

Poker Gets Dramatic
"In the evil galaxy of schadenfreude where theater resides, nothing's better than a darkly funny play about hopeless wankers full of big talk and even bigger dreams that you know will never be realized because of their cycles of obsession and addiction, whether it's drugs, sex, or, in the case of Patrick Marber's Dealer's Choice, the pissing away of a last quid in some poker game held in the dank basement of a London restaurant.
This is exactly what the happy evil theatergoer gets in Dealer's Choice, which opened convincingly last week at Mosaic Theatre: a gambling scrum."

Players Should Join the PPA
"On March 15th, the House Financial Services Committee passed a bill introduced by Representatives Jim Leach (R-IA) and Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) that would make it illegal for Internet gambling sites to accept financial transactions like credit cards, checks, wire transfers and electronic fund transfers.
The point of this bill is to stifle Internet poker, denying online rooms important conduits of money and essentially killing gaming sites at their root. The bill is headed to the House floor for debate and although there are no assurances that the bill will even make it to a vote, it's still a serious attack on the millions who view online poker as their recreational right."

Looking At the UK Poker Scene
"The world of poker books normally only looks at strategy. What books have been written regarding the lifestyle of tournament poker have been very few. That field will be expanding later this year with the publication of a book that looks at British poker professionals and their battles around the world.
'Swimming With The Devilfish - Under The Surface Of Professional Poker' will be released by MacMillan Publishing on June 16th, just prior to the start of the 2006 World Series of Poker. The book promises to be a unique look at the poker world in both Europe and the United States as it follows several professionals in their attempts to take down poker tournaments around the world."

Poker Shouldn't Be Legalized
"What’s wrong with Internet gambling? The answer gambling analysts have given is ABC: Addiction, Bankruptcy and Crime.
The addictive nature of gambling is well-established, and the American Psychiatric Association includes gambling addiction as a psychological pathology. The easy access of the Internet takes this existing problem and ratchets it up. Where before the compulsive gambler had to leave home to find an outlet for his addiction, today he has only to turn on his computer and have a credit card ready. Twenty-four hours a day."

Can You "Talk the Talk"?
You're in a three-way Texas Hold'em hand and you've got "big slick" on the "button". The "flop" comes down Q-10-4 "rainbow" giving you a "gutshot" draw and two "overcards". The "big blind" is a "calling station", but the middleman is a "rock". They both check, so you "lead out" and the big blind "check-raises" you. The rock folds, making the pot "heads up" and you call. On the "turn", you "spike" the Jack to make your "broadway".

Enough Already! Poker's Here To Stay
"A recent article in the New York Post caught my eye, yet another diatribe from the mainstream media on how the 'fad' of poker is beginning to burn out. The article, in the Sunday online edition of the Post, reported on the latest Diet Pepsi commercial, which featured poker professionals Phil Hellmuth, Daniel Negreanu and Scotty Nguyen squaring off in a poker tournament against the Diet Pepsi can. In the article, it also reported the downturn of viewership on television of many of the most popular poker tournaments, including the World Series of Poker and the World Poker Tour, and of 'Celebrity Poker Showdown.' It was, to say the least, a very one-sided look at the poker world of today."
